The word “sports medicine” may conjure up thoughts of professional athletes—or at the very least weekend warriors—seeking treatment for severe injuries sustained on the playing fields or on the bike routes. But we’re also an interdisciplinary Orthopedic speciality that treats a wide spectrum of patients with musculoskeletal injuries of the knee, shoulder, and other joints, both athletes and non-athletes, young and old. Road traffic accidents are the most common cause of ligament injuries, often known as sports injuries, in our country.

Technological advancements employed regularly in the Sports Medicine area assist both players and non-athletes. These include arthroscopic procedures for knee ailments such a torn ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) surgery, which uses a mix of fibre optics, small incisions, and small devices instead of more invasive operations. In many circumstances, same-day procedures and the use of local or regional anaesthetic are also options.
