Orthopaedics is a branch of surgery that deals with diagnosis and treatment of disorders relating to the musculoskeletal system (bones and muscles, joints, tendons, and ligaments), like trauma, spine injuries, spine deformities, degenerative diseases, congenital disorders, sports injuries, tumours, and infections. Other conditions treated by the department include but not limited to joint pain due to arthritis, bone fractures, injures in soft tissues like muscles, ligaments, and tendon, neck injuries, back pain, scoliosis, shoulder pain like bursitis, carpel tunnel syndrome, clubfoot, tendinitis, meniscus tears, and anterior cruciate ligaments (ACL) tear.

This is commonly known as arthroplasty, wherein the damaged joint is replaced with bio friendly prosthetics. The most common joint replacement surgery is the Knee replacement surgery.

Arthroscopic surgery

It is minimally invasive procedure wherein a device called arthroscope is used. An arthroscope contains a microscopic camera that the surgeon uses to visualise the extent of damage at the joint.
